General Guidelines for Winter '22-'23 Indoor Court Use
With only 3 courts and limited times, we are trying to find the right balance of various types of play. Here are some things we want to call to your attention in particular:
For each event, there is a maximum number of people who can sign up. We are trying to find the right balance of getting many people opportunities to play without having people show up and then sit around a lot waiting their turn. As a result, you MUST sign up on Court Reserve if you are going to attend. If an event is full, look for another day and time to play.
Registration for every event opens 1 week in advance. We ask that you only sign up in advance for one event per day so that everyone has equal opportunity to play.
If it is the day of an event and it is not full, then you can sign up for your second event for that day. We are asking you to please police yourselves on this.
For example: you sign up early in the week to play from 8 am - 10 am on Friday. On Friday morning, you see that there are still some spots open from 10 am - 12 pm. You could sign up at that time for 10 am, as everyone else has had plenty of time to claim one of those 10 am slots.
Exception: drills and clinics. You can reserve these plus one other event on the same day in advance.
You can bring guests, with some limitations:
For open play and drills, you can bring up to 2 guests and you must list them at the time you register. That way they will be counted against the total number of people allowed to sign up for the event.
Guests: Writing their name in the “Notes” field is not signing them up. There is a specific field to choose how many guests you are bringing (see image below). This is necessary to make sure the total number people signed up for a given time does not exceed the maximum allowed — names written in the Notes field cannot be counted by the system. Once you choose 1 or 2 guests, you will be given fields to enter their names.
There is a maximum number of guests allowed at all events. If Court Reserve will not let you register guests, it means that maximum number has been met.
As always, all guests must sign the LPRD Waiver and pay $5 (first visit free).
Reservable courts are a bit different from outside, since there are only very specific times we can offer them. You will find them on the events calendar in orange, where one person signs up for their group.
You must wear “court shoes” for safety reasons.
If you sign up to play, show up or cancel more than 1 hour in advance. If you are on the waitlist, do not show up hoping to play. The system will send you an email if you are moved off the waitlist because someone else cancelled. If you don’t get an email, do not expect to play.
Wait to walk behind a court until all play on that court has stopped and do so quickly so the players can continue their game.
Some people are choosing to “share” a spot when one person can’t sign up because an event is full.
We do not recommend this (since you are already going to be sitting out some of the time).
If you choose to share a spot anyway, please truly act as if you were a single player. For instance, player #2 cannot put their paddle in the line up to go on court until player #1 comes off the court.
In general, the schedule is the same week to week. However, there are occasional times when other LPRD events will take precedence over our use – for example, as they prepare for and host their Halloween activities, we will not be able to play indoors Oct. 27 – 31. Their events are generally known well in advance and our schedule on Court Reserve is updated accordingly. So, even if you usually play indoors on Wednesday afternoons (for example), if it isn’t on Court Reserve a given week, that is for a reason. If you can’t sign up, then don’t show up.
Some of our indoor play times are outside of LPRD office hours. If a captain is signed up to play, they can lock/unlock the building. If there isn't a captain signed up, you might have to wait for the building to be unlocked or you might have to leave early. If you want to make sure you can always play when you are signed up, become a captain!
