Protocols & Schedule Updates

Good day Picklers!

We’ve gone through some additional adjustments in light of the newest mandates from the Governor’s office. We had debated on whether to require masks in between games and coming and going from the parking lot. The other option, of course, is being able to maintain the 6 foot social distancing requirement. I think most of us would agree that if we could do the latter, it makes for a much more enjoyable pickleball experience.

So here is our most recent requirements:

Court 1 has now become the staging/posting area. When you arrive for play, go directly to court 1, find a place that is 6’ away from any other person’s gear (unless it’s the same household) and station yourself there. The corridor between the courts will now be left empty and we ask that no bags be set up along the courts. When you are ready to go play on a court, please maintain your distances from the other players as you enter and leave the courts. Be sure to sanitize your hands before and after leaving the court, and DO NOT linger in the corridor. Go back to your staging area and wait for your next game if you are rotating off the court. Please bring water to the court to avoid additional moving in and out of courts if you plan on staying for another game.

If you would like to stage outside of the fencing, you are welcome to do that as well. There is quite a bit of unused area in front of the shed and along the building that could also be utilized.

Bring your own chair- We have some benches, but there are obviously not enough to go around, so if you need to sit in between games, please bring a chair for yourself.

One last thing- I don’t like this one, but we need to STOP TAPPING PADDLES. It looks bad and whether there is any benefit to it doesn’t matter. It’s one more step to help our social distancing.

Now on to the schedule:

Given that we are in the heat of summer, it is pretty clear that no one wants to play after about noon each day. We are going to try a new schedule starting Monday.

All levels are open for play from 8am-12pm Monday through Friday and now Sunday. We will keep the Saturday Round Robin as it is a popular one. During this open play time, the captain(s) will designate courts for your level of play. Please respect the level of play that you belong in, but if you are invited to play in a mixed court with higher players, go for it. We are all adults here and I think we can mange this fine without too much detail. If there are more rec players on a given day, perhaps they might get an extra court. If there are more 3.5 players, perhaps they might get an extra court. We’ll just have to see how this plays out.

Continue using Sign Up Genius for your signups as we need that for contact tracing. If you want to indicate what time you are coming for the sake of other players, make a comment so others can see that. Coordinate with others in your group if you would like to designate a start time.

As before, if a captain wants to stay longer because there is demand, great! Keep on playing! We just wanted to create this new schedule for simplicity and for public consumption.

We’ll give this a shot for a while and see how it goes.

One last thing- The Frontier Days Round Robin tournament is a go! We have not been shut down (yet) so Vera has recreated our Frontier Days tournament with some adjustments. The 3.5 & 4.0 groups have been moved to the week before (August 21st, 22nd and 23rd). The 4.5, 5.0 and OPEN brackets will stay on the original weekend (August 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th). If you were registered with a partner, you should have received an email from Vera describing the changes. If you didn’t or are interested in playing, please contact Vera at vera@davidsonworld.net.

Thanks everyone and remember to social distance for the sake of all of us. We are a very visible crowd out on the pickleball courts so the better we do this, the less chance of us getting shut down for non-compliance.

Cheers!
