Frontier Days Tournament 2023 is in the books!
June was a busy month at our courts, first preparing for and then hosting the 8th annual Frontier Days tournament. A huge thank you goes out to all our members who helped get everything ready — repairing and painting courts, filling potholes in the road to the parking lot, weeding, hanging banners, pressure washing courts, putting up shade pop-ups, and so many other jobs. The courts and the area around them looked amazing as our guests arrived — check out the sunrise picture of the courts below from the first day of the tournament. Then, throughout the tournament we had volunteers checking in players, selling raffle tickets, keeping drink and beverage stations full, cleaning the courts each morning, keeping the bathrooms clean, and then breaking everything down and putting it away (in the rain!) at the end. You all are wonderful supporters of the club and help us put on a great time for all our participants!
Here are some pictures of club members playing in the tournament, and if you want to see even more photos, check out the Frontier Days Tournament page on Facebook.
Several members of our club got to stand on top of the podium, including:
Men’s 3.5 Gold: Greg Price and Daniel Price
Men’s 3.5 Silver: Carlos Soto with partner Tony Aceti
Men’s 4.0 Silver: Cullen Foss and Tommy Campas
Men’s 4.5 Silver: Cullen Foss with partner Ryan Pugh
Women’s 4.0 Bronze: Jen Toso with partner Kathy O’Bannon
Upcoming Tournaments in Central Oregon
For anyone looking to play in some tournaments in the area, be sure to check out Pickleball Brackets. There are tournaments in Redmond, Bend, and Sunriver in the next couple of months. At our courts, a local high schooler is organizing a tournament on August 12th as a fundraiser for Central Oregon Veterans, so make sure to sign up and add that one to your calendar. Also, keep an eye out for Prineville’s tournament registration to open — they use their own system for accepting registrations.
New Clinic and Drill Offerings
Starting July 11, Jen and Rick Toso will be offering Stroke Clinics (11 am - 12 pm) and Speed Drills (12:30 pm - 1:30 pm) for $20 each every Tuesday. Find the sessions on Court Reserve and be sure to sign up in advance — there are class minimum and maximum numbers so they can know how many people to expect each week.
Outdoor Court Schedule
Now that the tournament is over and indoor court availability is limited, make sure to check Court Reserve for the latest and greatest outdoor court schedule. By popular request, we’ve added some leveled Open Play times/courts, such as Beginner Open Play and 3.5+ Open Play. Make sure to sign up ahead of time for the events you are going to attend.

Wider World of Pickleball
For anyone in the market for a new paddle, I thought this was a great, comprehensive guide to characteristics to consider.
How many of these players have you met?
Check out this place that takes “home pickleball court” (plus a few other amenities) to a whole new level.
And, last but not least, this one made me giggle… anything for a good mixed doubles partner, right?
