Reminder: Pot Luck and Round Robins on Friday, March 3
This Friday we’re trading in some of our usual Open Play time for a couple of round robins (RRs) and an all-member potluck lunch in the gym at LPRD. The RRs are almost full as of this writing, but there are a couple spots and you can always join the waitlist in case someone has to drop out.
10:00-12:15: 3.0-3.5 Round Robin; 15 minute warm-up followed by play
12:15-1:30: Potluck; everyone welcome, even if you don’t play in the RR’s
1:30-3:45: 3.5-4.0 Round Robin; 15 minute warm-up followed by play
For the potluck, bring a dish to share. LPRD has a fridge if you need to refrigerate something while you play. There are also electrical outlets for slow cookers. Plates, utensils, bowls, and napkins will be provided. Bring what you want to drink, but no alcohol is allowed in the LPRD building.
This will be the start of “First Friday Potluck and Round Robins” we’ll continue doing year round. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Paddle Demo Day
On Feb. 19, we had a paddle demo day at the indoor facility — thanks to all who came out! It was fun to see everyone who was there and trying out some new paddles. We’ll look to schedule more of these events in the future, especially outdoors this summer when there are more courts for paddle testing. Please feel free to provide feedback in the comments section to let us know if you find these types of events useful and any other suggestions or feedback you might have.
Pickleball Etiquette
When starting a new sport, it can feel like there are some extra rules other people are following that don’t appear in the official rule book. These can vary from region to region and club to club, but I thought this was a nice summary of most of the “unwritten rules” that you may have noticed as you’ve started playing games. Not all apply all the time at all places, but it’s nice to know what most other people expect when playing.
Safety First!
It has been great to see more members sporting safety glasses on our courts! If you are looking for a pair, talk to other members about what they wear and like. See February’s blog post for some suggestions as well.
Other Pickleball Newsletters
We try not to fill your inbox with too many messages, but maybe you’re one of the folks out there going “more pickleball content please!!!”. If so, here are some websites with regular newsletters that I enjoy reading. These links will take you directly to the subscription page where possible:
The Dink: a mix of instruction, general and professional PB news, and short highlights
The Pickler: PB tips, new products, player stories, and some professional PB news
The Kitchen: honestly, I just signed up for this one, so I can’t speak too much to the content, but I have high hopes.
There may be a fair amount of overlap in content among them, but you can try them all and see whose format and style you like the best.
