Miscellaneous Court Use Info
Indoor Courts:
As most of our play moves indoors now, we have a busy calendar full of paddle battles, open play, reserved courts, drills and clinics. We’ll be monitoring use for all these times over the next month or so and then make adjustments as needed.
Remember: on the schedule, if you don’t see an event that would usually be there, it’s because it is canceled that week due to other LPRD activities. Examples include the week of Halloween, some weekends leading up to Christmas, etc.
Ball Machine: the club’s ball machine has been moved to the indoor courts. There will be no fee for using the ball machine. Since we don’t have dividers between the indoor courts, and balls tend to roll all over when using a ball machine, we have set aside one specific time slot per week (Mondays, 4-5 pm) only for ball machine use. Up to two people can reserve it during that time. If there are two people who sign up, please share it and take turns alternating between hitting and picking up balls while the other person hits. You are responsible for making sure all the balls are picked up at 5 pm.
There are many other groups also using the indoor court space this winter. Please be courteous and make sure that all of the nets and balls are put away at the end of our designated court time. This means stopping play ~2-3 minutes before the time is up to get everything put back.
Outdoor courts:
We have updated the court reserve schedule to reflect more typical hours of play during the colder months, from 11 am - 3 pm. Feel free to sign up and indicate the time you plan to arrive.
You can always use the courts outside the designated time as well. If you don’t know the combination lock code, ask a captain.
Remember to always make sure the courts are locked if you are the last one to leave.
We have removed the reservable outdoor courts from the schedule for the winter since we have to pay extra for that feature. Courts should generally be available when desired in the winter.
The outdoor water faucet has been turned off for the winter. Please leave it off.
Thank you!
A big thanks goes out to Mike Patzer and everyone who has helped him to repair the cracked concrete around the net posts on our outdoor courts, including Lance Kinsler, George Shrum, Suzanne Cournoyer, and Patty Pierce. Apologies if I missed anyone.
Drills, Clinics and Lessons
As you have probably already seen on our indoor court schedule, Jen Toso is offering regularly scheduled clinics and drills on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for $20 per person. You can also contact Jen if you would like to arrange private or semi-private lessons. Get more information here.
Also, Jen is working towards becoming an IPTPA certified rater. We will let you know when this is available. Until then, please continue to use the USA Pickleball Self-Rating guide as needed. If your rating in Court Reserve needs to be updated, please email us.
Captain’s Corner
If you are in La Pine during the winter, please help out as much as you are able by playing at the rec center throughout the months ahead. Your role is so important! When you are there you can help to regulate play, assist new players and have guests sign waivers, unlock/disarm and lock/arm the building when necessary, etc. Note that there is a yard stick in the pickleball cabinet in the closet if the net heights need to be checked. Our members appreciate you!
If you are uncertain how to lock/unlock the LPRD building, please contact Cheryl Patzer for info. If you aren’t a captain but are interested in becoming one, please also contact Cheryl.
Tinsel and Tidings
This festival of trees is a new event at LPRD this winter. LPRD is asking local organizations and businesses to provide decorated artificial trees that can be displayed during the event Dec. 2-3. The trees will be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefitting LPRD’s youth and adult educational programs. If you would be interested in organizing a tree on behalf of our club, please email us at lapinepick@gmail.com. You can also support LPRD by attending this event and bidding on a tree.

Also, our club has a new Treasurer! Welcome Ryan Pierson to the LPPC board. In case you missed it in our member vote, here’s a brief bio for Ryan: “In 2014, after eight years in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, I moved to the quiet town of La Pine to live the outdoorsy life. I enjoy a good workout, the beauties of nature, and some friendly competition. As soon as I joined the La Pine Pickleball Club I knew I had found something special, and two and a half months later I was blessed to be asked to join the board. I am very honored to serve the community with a fresh mind and youthful spirit and will strive to keep advancing this ever-growing club into something we can all be proud of."

A few pickleball funnies for you to enjoy:
The Holderness family takes on pickleball. Which stage are you in?
If Weird Al played pickleball, we’d have more of these to listen to.

The Pickleball National Championships start this coming week in Indian Wells, CA. Here’s how you can catch some of the action.
This may or may not be very high quality play, but it should be pretty fun to watch. I’m loving the Claussen Pickles sponsorship for the “The Claussen Crunch Time-Halftime Show”.
